MOLS BJERGE NATIONAL PARK
One of the five new national parks created in Denmark in the last few years, Mols Bjerge
National Park ( http://eng.nationalparkmolsbjerge.dk/ ) covers 180 sq km of Djursland forests,
moors and open grasslands as well as lakes, coastal areas and the sea. It encompasses
the town of Ebeltoft and nearby villages, and is named after the best-known natural fea-
ture of the region, Mols Bjerge (Mols Hills - rising to all of 137m).
The Ebeltoft tourist office can give you the necessary literature if you're interested in
exploring the park. A dedicated information centre is likely to be built in the not-too-dis-
tant future, and will probably be in the vicinity of Kalø (south of Rønde), where you can ex-
plore typical park highlights such as forest, an 18th-century manor and ruins of a 14th-
century castle.
Grenaa
Pop 14,600
A purpose-built harbour complete with (captive) sharks, a historic old town and 7km of
fine, sandy beaches are the defining attractions of Grenaa. The old town, radiating out
from Torvet, is the economic and shopping hub of the district. It's about 3km west of the
harbour, where the waterfront is peopled by shark-fanciers and Sweden-bound ferry-goers.
