Shopping
The shopping is excellent, but you may be surprised by the limited opening hours. Some
smaller stores don't trade on weekends (except for a few hours on Saturday morning).
Søndergade, the 850m-long busy pedestrian street (known as Ryesgade at its starting
point opposite the train station), is lined with largely mainstream shopping and chain
stores.
The Latin Quarter is a cobblestone, largely pedestrianised area offering original finds in
cool fashion and design boutiques. Check out Badstuegade and Volden, and west along
Vestergade.
Frederiksbjerg has more eclectic clothing and design stores, including some retro stores
and artisan studios. Stroll Bruuns Gade, Sankt Pauls Kirkeplads and Jægergårdsgade.
Central department stores open longer hours and offer everything from cosmetics to
fashion to homewares, including big-name Danish brands (Lego toys, Royal Copenhagen
porcelain, Holmegaard glass etc). Be sure to ask about VAT refunds. Stores include Ma-
gasin du Nord (
