St Pauls Apothek MODERN SCANDINAVIAN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 86 12 08 33; www.stpaulsapothek.dk ; Jægergårdsgade 76; 2/3-course
menu Dkr245/295; 5.30pm-midnight Tue-Thu, to 2am Fri & Sat)
What was once a pharmacy is now one of Aarhus' hottest, best-value dining destinations: a
Brooklyn-esque combo of hipster mixologists, vintage architectural detailing, and slinky
mood lighting. The menu is small on choice but big on Nordic produce and confident food
pairings - and for Dkr595, you can enjoy three courses matched with inspired, delicious
cocktails. Book ahead.
The Apothek is also in hot demand as a luxe drinking den - visit in the wee hours to
sample a few of the killer cocktails.
Kähler Villa Dining
MODERN DANISH
(

6.30-9.30pm
Mon-Sat)
Aarhus' culinary A-lister lies about 5km north of the centre, in a gracious old villa where
gustatory magic happens, at a delightfully accessible price. It's a clever concept: for a flat
rate of Dkr599, and at a set starting time, diners enjoy a set menu of appetiser, starter,
main, dessert and coffee, plus as much wine as they fancy.
Take Skovvejen north past Risskov (the pretty forest where the Danhostel is), and the
road becomes Grenåvej. Plenty of local buses serve this route, including 17, 18 and 100.
Nordisk Spisehus
MODERN DANISH
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 86 17 70 99; www.nordiskspisehus.dk ; MP Bruuns Gade 31; 3-/5-course
lunch Dkr199/299, 3-/5-/8-course dinner Dkr399/599/799; noon-10pm Mon-Sat)
Another clever concept restaurant, where the menu is usually geographically themed
('Rome', for example, or 'New York Meets Paris') and dishes are loaned from (consenting)
Michelin-starred restaurants around the globe, then given a Nordic twist. Menus change
every two months - it's no doubt a huge challenge, but the kitchen handles it with aplomb.
Lunch is excellent value.
