In-Depth Information
One of Trapholt's more intriguing exhibits is Jacobsen's prototype summerhouse, Kube-
flex (the only one of its kind). It was designed by Jacobsen in 1969-70 and involves cubic
modules designed to be added to as the need arose. The house is open at 1pm and 3pm
daily (also at 11am weekends).
All in all, Trapholt is one of the most impressive museums in Jutland - and the view-en-
riched cafe and giftshop are also top-notch. Take bus 4 to get here.

HISTORIC BUILDINGS
The red-and-green half-timbered house close to the tourist office on Akseltorv is Borchs
Gård ( MAP GOOGLE MAP ) , a decorative Renaissance building dating from 1595. Kold-
ing's oldest house is nearby and immensely photogenic, at number 18 ( MAP
GOOGLE MAP ) on the shopping strip of Helligkorsgade. It's a wonky, orange-coloured,
half-timbered affair built in 1589.

This top option is above a park about 1.5km north of the city centre (a 15-minute walk).
There are pleasant rooms in the older-style main building, and a newer annexe with private
bathrooms and modern kitchen-dining area. It's deservedly popular with families and
backpackers; bus 3 stops nearby.

Play lord of the manor at this grand, castle-like estate (a former sanatorium) 7km east of
the city, amid the forest on Kolding Fjord (2km past Trapholt museum; take bus 4). It's a
gorgeously restful spot, with first-class facilities (indoor pool, free bikes, cafe, terrace and
restaurant) and the rooms are an ode to Scandi minimalism and design.
