This family-friendly harbourside marine centre houses aquariums, a 40m-long underwater
tunnel, touch pools for kids, and seals and porpoises. It's best to go at feeding times (usu-
ally around 11am and 1pm). Note: confirm opening days online, as the aquarium is closed
Mondays outside of Danish school holidays.
Romsø
ISLAND
The idyllic wooded island of Romsø, whose only residents are deer, rabbits and birds, is a
30-minute boat ride from Kerteminde. You can walk a coastal trail around the 1-sq-km is-
land or just soak up the solitude. Bring a picnic lunch - there are no facilities.
The Romsø-Båden ( 23 43 63 04; www.romsoe.dk ; adult/child return Dkr240/120) boat
service takes passengers to the island on Wednesday and Saturday from April to August,
departing Kerteminde at 9am and Romsø at 2pm. Reservations required.

Købmandsgård is a photogenic 16th-century merchant's house set around a cobbled court-
yard in the middle of town. Part of it houses an excellent-value guesthouse, with four
double rooms that share a kitchen-living space and two toilets. It's fresh and inviting, with
friendly owners. Breakfast is Dkr75.
Danhostel Kerteminde HOSTEL

More like a rural retreat and sweetly nestled by a wooded area, this well-run hostel is a
five-minute walk from a sandy beach and 15 minutes' walk south of town. The 30 rooms
all have toilets; breakfast is Dkr70. Dorm beds are available in high season.
