Store Tårn
LANDMARK
(Great Tower; noon-4pm Jun-Aug)
Built in 1684, Christiansø's Store Tårn is an impressive structure measuring a full 25m in
diameter, and the tower's 100-year-old lighthouse offers a sweeping 360-degree view of
the island. On our last visit, the tower was set for major restoration work, due for comple-
tion in 2017.
Walking
The main activity on Christiansø is the walk along the fortified stone walls and cannon-
lined batteries that mark the island's perimeter. There are skerries (rocky islets) with nest-
ing sea birds and a secluded swimming cove on Christiansø's eastern side.
Sleeping & Eating
There's a small food store and snack shop beside Christiansø Gæstgiveriet.

CAMPGROUND
( 24 42 12 22; campsite Dkr75-100; May-Aug)
Camping is allowed in summer in a small field called the Duchess Battery at the northern
end of Christiansø, but limited space means it can be difficult to book a site. The camping
ground has a recently renovated kitchen for guests.
