TO MARKET, TO MARKET
Since debuting in 2011, food market Torvehallerne KBH ( MAP GOOGLE MAP ;
www.torvehallernekbh.dk ; Israels Plads; 10am-7pm Mon-Thu, to 8pm Fri, to 6pm Sat, 11am-5pm
Sun) has become an essential stop on the Copengahen foodie trail. A gut-rumbling ode to
the fresh, the tasty and the artisanal, its beautiful stalls peddle everything from seasonal
herbs and berries, to smoked meats, seafood and cheeses, smørrebrød, fresh pasta, and
hand-brewed coffee. You could easily spend an hour or more exploring its twin halls, chat-
ting to the vendors and taste-testing their products. Best of all, you can enjoy some of the
city's best sit-down meals here… with change to spare. To help you on your waist-expand-
ing way, we've identified some undisputed highlights.

Perfect for breakfast, Grød turns stodge sexy with its modern takes on porridge. Made-
from-scratch options might include porridge with gooseberry compote, liquorice sugar,
skyr(Icelandic yoghurt) and hazelnuts, or healthier-than-thou grain porridge cooked in
carrot juice and served with apple, roasted flaxseeds, raisins and a zingy ginger syrup. If
it's later in the day, try the chicken congee with spring onions, coriander and peanuts.

Save your caffeine fix for Copenhagen's most respected microroastery. The beans here
are sourced ethically and directly from farmers. These guys usually offer two espresso
blends, one more full-bodied and traditional, the other more acidic and Third-Wave in fla-
vour. If espresso is just too passé, order a hand-brewed cup from the Kalita Wave dripper.
There are two other outlets, in Nørrebro and Frederiksberg (
