The rooms might be a little small, but the minimalist styling and cool furniture fit the hip-
ster bill at this super-cool Scandi number. Perks include sleek, black-slate bathrooms,
friendly staff, and decent cocktails in the popular ground-floor bar (request a room away
from the bar if you're a light sleeper).

There's something rather baronial about black-and-gold Kong Frederik, its interiors a mix
of dark woods, antique furnishings and paintings of Danish royalty and hunting scenes.
The well-appointed rooms come in three themes: Classic, Romantic and Library (the latter
featuring silvery 'bookshelf' wallpaper). The staff are genuinely friendly and there's a Ne-
spresso machine in the communal reading room.

Pimped with Jacobsen chairs and red leather, The Square is an excellent three-star hotel
with designer flair and amenities generally associated with greater expense and more stiff-
ness. Standard rooms are a little small but well equipped, and some have sterling views of
the main square - plus all the city's main sights are within walking distance.
