CYCLING: 101
Copenhagen is one of the world's great biking centres, and hitting the peddle is a conveni-
ent way of exploring the city. To ensure your ride is safe and stress-free (and to avoid ag-
gravating local cyclists), familiarise yourself with the following basic rules:
Keep right unless overtaking another cyclist
Do not cycle on foothpaths or pedestrianised streets
Walk your bicycle across crosswalks
Signal right (right arm stretched out low) before turning right, signal left (left arm
stretched out low) before turning left, and use the stop signal (hand raised by your
side) when making an atypical stop on the cycle path, or if stopping to turn left at a
main intersection
Do not turn right on a red light
Stop and give way to pedestrians needing to cross the bike path to get on and off buses
Give way to bus passengers crossing cycle lanes to reach the pavement
Texting while cycling is illegal, as is riding while inebriated
Lock your bike - bike theft occurs
