was added in 1752 by Lauritz de Thurah. Inside, the church wows with its elaborately

You'll find the Danish Architecture Centre inside Gammel Dok, a 19th-century har-
bourside warehouse. Aside from an excellent bookshop and panoramic cafe, the centre
runs changing exhibitions on Danish and international architecture. On Sundays from May
to September, the centre also runs two-hour walking tours of the city (Dkr125). See the

Rarely visited by tourists, this non-profit art gallery runs about 10 exhibitions annually,
putting the spotlight on contemporary installation art and photography, usually by younger
artists. The gallery also runs a busy calender of artist talks, lectures and film screenings.

Nørreport to Nørrebro
Straddling the city's shallow lakes, with Nørreport to the south and Nørrebro to the north-
west, are two of Copenhagen's most intriguing areas. Nørreport's star strip is Nansensgade,
a low-key street studded with a handful of atmospheric cafes, bars and independent
boutiques. Across the water, livelier Nørrebro subverts the pristine Nordic stereotype with
its dense, sexy funk of art-clad 19th-century tenements, multicultural crowds, thronging
cafes, bars and clubs, and independent fashion boutiques.
While streets such as Elmegade, Blågårdsgade, Ravnsborggade and Sankt Hans Torv
