Built in the 13th century, the church of Skt. Nikolaj is now home to the Copenhagen Con-
temporary Art Centre, which hosts around half a dozen exhibitions annually. Exhibitions
tend to focus on modern-day cultural, political and social issues, explored in mediums as
diverse as photography and performance art. The centre also houses a snug, well-regarded
Danish restaurant called Maven.

The HQ of Denmark's artists' union continues to foster emerging and forward-thinking
talent with five to six major exhibitions of modern and contemporary art each year. The
work of both Danish and international artists is explored, with an underlying emphasis on
current and emerging trends in the art world.

STREET
Running parallel to crowded Strøget, Strædet is one of Copenhagen's eye-candy shopping
streets. It's technically made up of two streets, Kompagnistræde and Læderstræde, dotted
with independent jewellers and antique silver shops, and some snug cafes to boot.

BUILDING
Built in 1815, Copenhagen's neoclassical courthouse was designed by CF Hansen, also re-
sponsible for Vor Frue Kirke. It's linked by its own 'bridge of sighs' to cells across the
