In electrospinning, a syringe is loaded with a polymer solution, which is forced out by the appli-
cation of a high voltage to the syringe tip. This action causes a high-speed jet of polymer to exit from
the tip and land on an appropriate collector, usually a fl at plate or a rotating cylinder, as illustrated
in Figure 4.11. Polymer fi bers with diameters ranging from a few nanometers to several microns can
thus be produced. A wide range of materials can be spun using this method, including the classic
