The Other Alpine Regions
A review of the hydrogeological attributes in other mobile belt regions as
a function of commercial hydrocarbon saturation suggests recommending
for the exploration-appraisal procedure a complex of oil and gas occur-
rence criteria on local structures and identifying zones of predominant
oil and gas accumulation. That would enable the separate forecast by the
phase state of accumulations (Table 10.6) and quantitative estimation of
their reserves (Figures 8.6, 8.8, 8.10).
The data reviewed in this Chapter make it possible to state that when the
complex of necessary and sufficient factors is in place, the following may be
considered as objective general preconditions for a probable identification
of hydrocarbon saturation within the sediment sections of Alpine mobile
belt regions:
t Mandatory presence of discharge zones of syndepositional
ground waters syngenetic with potentially productive
reservoirs.
t Combined presence within the reservoir sequences esti-
mated as probably oil and gas-bearing, of ground waters and
their mixes differing in salinity, ion-salt composition and
stratigraphic belonging.
t Availability in the upper section of the prospective local
structures of ground water's invasion areals from the under-
lying hydrogeological stage.
t Epigenetic AHPP within clay seals above the probable
hydrocarbon accumulations (“invasion halos”).
