Nettleton's method (described in Nettleton, L.L. 1976: Gravity and
Magnetics in Oil Prospecting . McGraw Hill, New York) can be applied
to a profile or to all the gravity stations in an area. In the latter case, a
computer may be used to determine the density that produces the least cor-
relation between topography and the corrected anomaly map. Even though
these calculations are normally done by the interpreters, field observers
should understand the technique, since they may have opportunities to take
additional readings for density control.
