15. Set the value in the dialog box to 3, and click the green check mark
to accept the new value. Doing so changes the sketch. You may need to
zoom out to see the complete sketch, as shown in Figure 2.17.
FIGURE 2.17 Even when you make major changes to the sketch, the
constraint relationships remain intact.
16. Select the Equal constraint, or press the = key on your keyboard.
17. When the constraint highlights, pick the bottom line. Then, pick the
vertical line on the left.
18. Pick the top line and the vertical line on the left.
The top, bottom, and left lines are now all the same length and will all be
affected by any change to the 3.000 dimension.
The other dimension in the sketch is the angular dimension. You can modify
its value to be 90 degrees to make the last line vertical. Sometimes you may
want to place a dimension to see a value but not use it to control the geometry.
When Inventor places parametric dimensions, it's possible to convert them into
driven dimensions. This function is part of a series of overrides that exist in the
sketch. Over the coming exercises, you'll use all of them at least once and some
of them many times. Let's review these options, which reside in the Format
panel on the Sketch tab:
