Placing the Ribs
By sketching multiple lines, you can create a large number of ribs at once even
when they intersect. For your model, you'll create one rib and then pattern it:
1. Start the Rib tool from the Create panel.
2. Because there is only one viable sketch, a preview should appear.
3. Set the Thickness value to 0.15 inches, set the Taper value to 2
degrees, and if necessary use the Direction tool to get your preview to
look like Figure 8.49.
FIGURE 8.49 A preview of the rib shows the shape extending beyond the sketch.
4. Click OK to add the rib.
5. Turn off the visibility of the plane created for the rib sketch.
The rib should extend to match the geometry in the hollow of the
hub. It shouldn't penetrate the hole at the center or come out the
side of the hub. That's the beauty of the Rib tool.
6. Create a circular pattern of eight ribs around the Z axis of the part.
7. Start a rule fi llet. For the Feature selection, pick the rib and the pat-
tern of the rib.
8. Set the Radius value to 0.2 inches, and keep the Rule value as Against
Part. See Figure 8.50.
