FIGURE 6.22 The Derived Part dialog makes it possible to select what
type of data you want to reuse.
In addition to selecting the data you want to link to in the source
fi le, you can also select how any geometry will be used. Four Derive
Style settings determine how imported data is used in the assembly:
Single Solid Body Merging Out Seams between Planar Faces A
name like that doesn't leave much need for definition. If you link to
an assembly with three parts that are end to end, the parts are
merged into a single solid using this method.
Solid Body Keep Seams between Planar Faces Also used for working
with links to assemblies, this option maintains separated faces simi-
lar to multibody solids, but in reverse.
Maintain Each solid as a Solid Body This option brings an assembly
to a multibody solid state in the single part.
Body as Work Surface If you need to build a part that conforms to
the contours of another part or assembly, you can use that compo-
nent's surfaces to build up against or to cut your current part.
