Turning On Enhanced Highlighting
Remember, the settings in the Application Options affect Inventor as a whole.
Using this option is a matter of taste; but if you like it, you'll probably want to
use it all of the time. So, set it and forget it:
1. Select Application Options to bring up the Application Options.
2. On the General tab, pick the Enable Enhanced Highlighting check box.
3. Click OK to save the changes. If you like, you can always export the
settings to a new profi le.
4. In the Design window, move your cursor over some of the compo-
nents to see the effect of the new setting.
Working with Colors
With your new knowledge of selection fi lters and enhanced highlighting, let's do
another exercise to create a View representation that may not look as realistic
but may make it easier to see what parts form the assembly:
1. Right-click the Master View representation, and select Copy from the
context menu.
2. Rename the new View representation Circus .
3. Make Circus the active View representation.
Right-click context menus are an enormously valuable resource,
and of course they're not wasted on the selection fi lters. In this case,
because primary tools are available through the right-click menus,
selection fi lters are accessed by adding a keystroke.
4. Hold the Shift key, and right-click in an empty part of the Design
window.
5. Set Select Part Priority as the selection mode. See Figure 5.36 for the
full context menu.
Now, as you pass over the assembly, the individual elements highlight.
6. Pick a component on the screen. When it's selected, choose a new
color for it from the pull-down menu on the Quick Access Toolbar.
7. Repeat the process for a number of parts in the assembly. See
Figure 5.37 as an example.
