In-Depth Information
Select Part Priority As I just stated, there is a difference between a part and a
component. If you select this mode, the individual pieces of the fan support frame
will highlight, or a single screw of the bolted connections will highlight. This is a
fantastic tool for accessing a part that is buried in a subassembly of a subassembly
in an assembly.
Select Feature Priority This fi lter goes even deeper. It lets you select the Hole
feature on a part that is at any level in the assembly. It's also the default mode
when working in a Part fi le.
Select Faces and Edges As with all the fi lters, the name is the description. This
option can help you locate a specifi c face to build a work plane or sketch on.
Select Sketch Features This is the default mode in the drawing fi le. When you
share a sketch across features, you may accidentally leave it visible. If you do that
some time, try switching this fi lter on, selecting the sketch, and turning its vis-
ibility off from the assembly. You'll really appreciate it if you've already dug many
layers deep to try to fi gure out where the visible sketch is hidden in the Browser.
After you select a fi lter and pick the part, feature, or face you want, you can do
anything you need to. Remember, Inventor was built from the assembly out, so
this type of tool is second nature to Inventor — the trick is remembering to
leverage it.
Other selection fi lters allow you to select multiple components by size or all
the instances of a particular component. This is a great way to select parts for
suppression or isolation to build representations.
Before you practice using your fi lters, we should discuss one last item:
highlighting.
Enhanced Highlighting
Passing over components in the assembly, you see the edges of the components
highlight. This indicates which one you'll interact with if you pick your right or
left mouse button.
There is another mode for highlighting, called enhanced highlighting . Rather
than just the edges of the component highlighting, the entire part highlights.
To make this the standard mode of operation, you need to engage it in the
Application Options.
Let's switch this on.
