Frame Generator
The Frame Generator is a specialized tool referred to as a design accelerator.
Design accelerators
are tools that were developed under the umbrella of
func-
tional design
. A functional-design tool automates the process of creating geom-
etry based on standard geometric shapes; in the truly advanced tools,
engineering calculations can be used to defi ne what's needed.
The Frame Generator uses standard metal shapes from the Content Center.
You can add custom shapes to the Content Center as well. Once the shapes are
placed, other specialized tools allow you to edit them and build relationships
between the parts that make up the frame.
You place frame members on the edges of a model, on lines or arcs in a sketch,
or by selecting two points.
When you place a frame member, you're presented with the Insert dialog. This
dialog box has a lot going on, as you can see in Figure 5.9:
