As you've learned in this exercise, you can access just about any modifi cation
with a double- or right-click. Now, we'll take a minute to see where the real
power of Inventor drawings comes from: associativity to the 3D model.
Associativity
The principle of associativity simply means that any change made to the part or
assembly documented in your drawing is refl ected in the drawing. This is the
crux of creating 2D detail drawings from 3D geometry. So far, you've been able
to exploit the 3D model to quickly create a drawing. Now it's time to see the pay-
off: You'll change the 3D model and have the drawing update.
Drawing View Associativity
In this exercise, you'll modify the bore in the weldment and see the drawing
update accordingly:
1. Right-click in any drawing view, and select Open from the
context menu.
This makes the assembly active. If the assembly wasn't open
already, this would open the fi le.
