PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Between mid-May and late August, a local bus (adult/child Nkr490/245, 45 minutes) runs
daily at 11am and 9.30pm between Honningsvåg and Nordkapp. It sets off back from the
cape at 1.15pm and 12.45am (so that you can take in the midnight sun at precisely mid-
night). From 1 June to 15 August, there's a supplementary run at 5pm, though this returns
at 6.15pm, giving you barely half an hour at Nordkapp unless you want to hang around for
the service that returns at 12.45am. Check precise departure times with the tourist office.
Ticket prices include the Nkr245 per-passenger Nordkapp entry fee.
If you're on a budget, scan carefully the terms of any inclusive tours, which probably
charge considerably more for similar services.
A taxi to/from Nordkapp from Honningsvåg costs at least Nkr1400, including an hour
of waiting at the cape - plus that Nkr245 admission charge per passenger.
SECURING A BUS SEAT
Should you see a cruise ship (or the Hurtigruten) heading for port, rush to the tourist of-
fice to reserve your bus journey to the North Cape. Readers tell horror tales of scrim-
mages, arguments and bus drivers simply riding on by, once these monsters of the waves
disgorge their masses.
Nordkapp & Around
Yes, it's a rip-off (more on that in a moment), but Nordkapp is a stunning, hauntingly beau-
tiful place. Even after the novelty wears off, it's the view that thrills the most. In reason-
able weather - which is a lot of the time - you can gaze down at the wild surf 307m below,
watch the mists roll in and simply enjoy the moment.
However, to reach the tip of the continent - by car, by bike, on a bus or walking in - you
