In-Depth Information
provide simple maps and basic route descriptions, but pack Alstahaug, a reliable map at
1:50,000.
Hardy hikers can reach all seven summits (ranging from 910m to 1072m) in a day.
Every several years there's a competition that takes in all the peaks - the record is three
hours, 54 minutes, although most mortals should count on fifteen to twenty hours as a
minimum. The climb to Botnkrona (1072m), the highest of the peaks, takes most hikers of
reasonable fitness three to four hours one way, while count on two to three hours to climb
each of the other peaks (also one way).
Sign your name in the topic at each summit, fill in a control card and leave it at the tour-
ist office - in return, you'll receive a diploma in the mail.

Hotel Sandnessjøen HOTEL
( 40 00 00 91; www.hotel-sandnessjoen.no ; Havnegata 4; d from Nkr1080; )
This fabulous hotel overlooks the waterfront with stylish rooms with contemporary decor
(think bold wallpaper, big mirrors and creative lighting). The breakfast is a cut above the
average and a light but excellent evening buffet meal is included in the room rate. Best of
all, the service here is more personal than you'll get elsewhere from the chain hotels.
Sea-facing rooms cost a little extra.
Rica Hotel Sandnessjøen HOTEL
( 75 06 50 00; www.rica.no ; Torolv Kveldulvsons gate 16; d Nkr1025)
This large hotel offers all the comfort you'd expect from a member of the Rica chain and a
major overhaul and extension was underway at the time of our visit, so things should get
even better.
