Sjøgata HISTORIC SITE
A stroll around the Sjøgata area, with over 100 listed buildings, takes you past galleries,
coffee shops, restaurants and private homes in attractively renovated former warehouses,
workshops and boat sheds. The History of a Town , available at the museum and tourist of-
fice, is an excellent small booklet that brings Mosjøen's history to life.
Vefsn Museum MUSEUM
(adult/child Nkr30/free)
The Vefsn Museum is split over two sites. In Sjøgata, the Jakobsensbrygga Ware-
house (Sjøgata 31b; 10am-8pm Mon-Fri, 10am-3pm Sat Jun-Aug, shorter hrs rest of year) is an
excellent small museum that portrays, via some particularly evocative photo blow-ups, the
history of Mosjøen from the early 19th century onwards. Northeast of the centre, the rural
building collection (Bygdesamlinga; 10am-3pm Tue-Fri & Sun Jul only) features 12 farm-
houses, shops and the like from the 18th and 19th centuries, which you can view from the
exterior. Both have helpful pamphlet guides in English.
Adjacent to the building collection is the Dolstad Kirke (1735), built on the site of a
medieval church dedicated to St Michael. A combined ticket gives entry to both branches
of Mosjøen's museum.

Mosjøen Camping CAMPGROUND

4-person cabin from Nkr450; year-round; )
Beside the E6 about 500m southeast of the town centre, this campground tends to be over-
crowded with travellers doing the North Cape rush. There's a pool with waterslide, snack
bar, children's playground - and even tenpin bowling. In this land of superlatives, the sole
urinal in the men's toilet must rank as Norway's, if not the world's, highest.
