CAR & MOTORCYCLE
If you're driving, be careful not to stray into the right-hand lanes, which are reserved for
taxis and buses.
PARKING IN CENTRAL TRONDHEIM
The city's parking meters in the centre of town can quickly gobble up your holiday money.
However, during school summer vacation (ie from mid- to late June to the middle of
August), Trondheim Katedralskole lets both cars and campervans park in its playground
for Nkr100 per day (7.30am to 9pm). The parking area is open from 8am to 3.30pm from
Monday to Saturday (closed Sunday). Check with the tourist office for the latest.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
The city bus service, run by AtB ( GOOGLE MAP ; www.atb.no ) , has its central transit point
(all lines stop at or near it) on the corner of Munkegata and Dronningens gate. Buses and
trams cost Nkr30 per ride (Nkr70 for a day card). You'll need the exact change.
Trondheim's tram line, the Gråkalbanen, runs west from St Olavsgata ( GOOGLE MAP )
to Lian, in the heart of the Bymarka. Antique trolleys trundle along this route on Saturdays
in summer. Transfers are available from city buses.
TAXI
To call a cab, ring Trønder Taxi (
07373) or Norgestaxi (
08000) .
THE ROUTE NORTH
Hell, Norway's most cherished battleground and a string of intriguing coastal settlements
occupy northern Trøndelag. Then, at the point where Norway narrows and heads for the
Arctic, you've a choice of two routes north from Steinkjer: the more frequented, inland
Arctic Highway (E6) or the slower E17 Kystriksveien (Coastal Route). The railway line
north to Bodø via Hell and Steinkjer more or less follows the Arctic Highway to Fauske.
