The old Viking port of Hellesylt, through which a roaring waterfall cascades, is altogether
calmer, if far less breathtaking, than nearby Geiranger.

Peer Gynt Galleriet
CULTURAL CENTRE

An only-in-the-fjords extravaganza, bas-relief wood carvings fashioned by local chippy
Oddvin Parr illustrate the Peer Gynt legend, along with a 35minute audio-visual show
(three daily in English). There's an attached cafeteria with lovely big windows overlooking
the fjord.

This HI-affiliated hostel perches on the hillside overlooking Hellesylt. It's not flash, but in
a beautiful spot. If you're arriving by bus, ask the driver to drop you off to save a long slog
back up the hill.

The absence of shade at this site is more than compensated for by its fjord-side location
and proximity to the ferry pier.
Getting There & Away
In summer, some ferries from Geiranger connect with buses to/from Stryn (Nkr115, one
hour) and Ålesund (Nkr195, 2¾ hours).
