VISITING LYSEFJORD
The most spectacular aspect of visiting Lysefjord is the two-hour hike up to Preikestolen
(Pulpit Rock), although a ferry along Lysefjord is an alternative. For general information
on the region, check out www.lysefjordeninfo.no and www.visitlysefjorden.no .
PULPIT ROCK BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT
From May to mid-September, five to seven ferries a day run from Stavanger's Fiskespiren
Quay to Tau, where the ferries are met by a bus, which runs between the Tau pier and the
Preikestolhytta Vandrerhjem. From there, the two-hour trail leads up to Preikestolen. The
last bus from Preikestolhytta to Tau leaves at 7.55pm. Tide Reiser ( www.tidereiser.no ) offers
all-inclusive round-trip tickets (adult/child Nkr250/125); there are timetables online or at
the tourist office. You can buy tickets at the tourist office, online or at Fiskespiren Quay.
PULPIT ROCK BY CAR
If you've got your own vehicle, you can take the car ferry (adult/child/car Nkr42/21/125,
40 minutes, up to 24 departures daily) from Stavanger's Fiskespiren Quay to Tau. From
the pier in Tau, a well-signed road (Rv13) leads 19km to Preikestolhytta Vandrerhjem
(take the signed turn-off after 13km). It costs Nkr70/35 per car/motorcycle to park here.
An alternative route from Stavanger involves driving to Lauvvik (via Sandnes along
Rv13), from where a ferry crosses to Oanes (10 minutes, departures almost every half-
hour).
Either way, the trip between Stavanger and the trailhead takes around 1½ hours.
BOAT TOURS TO LYSEFJORD
Two companies offer three-hour boat cruises from Stavanger to the waters below
Preikestolen on Lysefjord and back.
