place delivers. They also serve coffee, wine and beer and sell a range of artisan chocolate
and patisserie-style cakes.
B.brormann B.bar
BAR
One of Stavanger's best-loved bars, this low-key shopfront place draws a discerning
over-30s crowd and, later, local hospitality staff for post-shift beers and gun-mixed cock-
tails (Nkr120).
GNU
BAR
A classic rock-n-roll bar that has both street cred and quiet style. Take your Pilsner up-
stairs for brilliant views of the harbour or pull up a downstairs bar stool and get in the
jukebox queue. Friday night happy hour (4pm to 7pm) features delicious local spicy saus-
ages on potato cakes; weekend DJs play crowd-pleasing ecclectic sets.
Cardinal
PUB
If you're after a big, comfortable, convivial pub, Cardinal will please. An older crowd con-
vene here to sample what's claimed to be Norway's biggest selection of beers, some 600 or
so, with 22 of those on tap.
Checkpoint Charlie
NIGHTCLUB
This venue has been around for 30-odd years, making it older than most of the current reg-
ulars. Still, everyone in Stavanger ends up here at some point and has a Checkpoint story
to tell. The website lists upcoming local and international live acts (indie to straight out
rock and roll) and club nights.
