As well as providing detailed trekking maps and advice on trails and skiing, the centre
screens a 20-minute film with dramatic panoramic footage of the park: if you can't visit its
inner depths on foot, this is the next best thing.
There are also interactive displays, informative explanations of the region's natural his-
tory, fish tanks of mountain species, and interesting geology exhibits.
Activities
In addition to hiking up to Kjeåsen Farm and trekking in the Hardangervidda National
Park, a range of other activities are available. Boat rental is possible (half/full day for a
medium-sized motor boat Nkr300/500); ask at the tourist office , Vik Pensjonat or Eidfjord
Fjell og Fjord Hotel .

One of the best activities operators in Norway's fjord country, Flat Earth arranges sea/river
kayaking (three/six hours Nkr450/850), white-water rafting (Nkr480, three hours), climb-
ing (Nkr250, three hours), downhill mountain-biking (half/full day Nkr150/200) and glaci-
er hikes (Nkr740, full day).
Its headquarters are close to the Hardangervidda Natursenter in Øvre Eidfjord, 6.5km
southeast of Eidfjord. It also rents out sea kayaks (Nkr200, full day), canoes (Nkr140 first
hour, Nkr40 each hour after) and mountain bikes (half/full day Nkr150/200).

This delightful guesthouse run by Dutch owners Eric and Inge has a homely feel with just
five sweetly furnished double rooms and one single, upstairs in a beautifully maintained
building built in 1896. There's six cute camping huts that are self-catering and use facilit-
ies in the main house's basement.
