Ulvik Fjord Hotel HOTEL, CAMPGROUND
( 56 52 61 70; www.ulvikfjord.no ; tent/caravan sites Nkr180/220, 4-person cabins from Nkr600, d
from Nkr985; )
By the fjord at the entrance to town, this well-run white-wood guesthouse offers very com-
fortable rooms, some of which have balconies overlooking a bubbling stream. The main
buidling is across the road from the water, but the campsites and simple huts are right by
the fjord.
Doktergarden B&B
( 90 76 70 98; www.doktergarden.no ; d Nkr1000; )
You'll need to book ahead at this charming old timber farmhouse, around 2km east of the
village centre and perched on a rise overlooking the fjord, as Bjørnar and Bjørg operate it
on an 'as needs' basis. The rooms, most with shared bathroom, are bright, comfortable and
have fjord views; the airy garden is a sun trap too.
Brakanes Hotel HOTEL
(
56 52 61 05; www.brakanes-hotel.no ; s/d Nkr1185/1685, with fjord views Nkr1385/1885;
)
This large modern hotel has a front-row seat to some of the best views in Hardangerfjord,
none finer than those from the balconies in its fjord-facing rooms. All rooms are tradition-
al, as are the public spaces, although the lounge and casual dining area have had a recent
stylish makeover.
The soaring glass frontage from these areas also has intoxicating views, to say the least.
The restaurant has buffet (Nkr450) and a la carte dinner service (mains Nkr280), but we'd
opt for lunch, where peace reigns and lunch specials (Nkr155) offer hearty, homey dishes
such as local lamb sausages and potato gratin or salmon and asparagus.
