In-Depth Information
There's a popular restaurant here, but we love Kippers most for a late afternoon glass or
two of wine or a cup of tea. When the sun shines, its waterside tables overlooking the
sparkling harbour, docks and far hills are highly coveted; otherwise, the big windows in-
side are great for a moody view in the rain.
Altona Vinbar
WINE BAR
Set in a warren of vaulted underground rooms that date from the 16th century, Altona's
huge, carefully selected wine list, soft lighting and murmured conversation make it Ber-
gen's most romantic bar (particularly appealing when the weather's cold and wet). The bar
menu tends towards tasty comfort food, such as Norwegian lamb burgers (Nkr175).
Terminus Bar
WHISKY BAR
Consistantly voted one of the word's best whisky bars, this grand old bar in the Grand
Hotel Terminus is the perfect place for a quiet dram. It promises over 500 different tastes,
and the oldest whisky dates back to 1960. The 1928 room looks gorgeous both before and
after you've sampled a few.
Una Bryggeri
BREWERY
Right in the heart of Bryggen, this stylish but informal brewery is a welcome newcomer.
There are Norwegian microbrews on tap, including their own; bar staff love their product
and are happy to provide tips and tastes to make sure you're happy. Besides ale, they serve
good pub-food standards at reasonable prices (for the location) and upstairs there's a dedic-
ated restaurant area.
