Royal Gourmetburger og Gin
BURGERS
3pm-midnight Sun-Thu, to 1am Fri & Sat)
Big call, but we declare these to be Bergen's best burgers. This convivial, stylishly-tiled
corner bar with big windows that overlook the pedestrianised street has a cracking playlist
and draws the city's winsome 20- and 30-somethings early
and
late. Oh, and did we men-
tion there's gin?
The G&T menu starts at Tanqueray and Tonic (Nkr99), but then takes this mixed-drink
staple to places we'd never dreamt of. Particularly memorable: the gin, geranium and cori-
ander (Nkr119).
Bastant Bryggen
CAFE
wiches Nkr119, soup & half sandwich Nkr155; 11am-5pm)
Cuddle in or take away at this super-popular all-organic cafe in the heart of Bryggen's tiny
alleyways. Daily soups always include a vegan, vegetarian and meat option, and sand-
wiches are hearty. There's homemade lemonade and strawberry frappes in summer, killer
hot chocolates when it's cold and excellent coffee year-round.

SAUSAGES
If you've been travelling around Norway for a while, you may be heartily sick of hot dogs
bought from petrol stations. But this place has
real
sausages (including wild game,
reindeer, lamb and chilli) and a better-than-average range of sauces.
Colonialen Litteraturhuset
NORWEGIAN

This airy, open-plan space is subtly divided into two distinct venues by a bustling kitchen:
one side for all-day breakfasting, snacking, lunching and drinking, the other an elegantly
