Nordnes makes a great Bergen base, and this small, smart hotel is in a key position, sur-
rounded by the pretty rowhouses and parkland that the neighbourhood's known for, and
within walking distance of either harbour. Rooms are decorated in rich, bright tones with
big original window frames, bathrooms are small but modern, and there's a nice courtyard
garden.
Kindly, single bookings are upgraded to double on availability. Another nice touch: the
hotel is run along altruistic lines, offering training programs for disadvantaged people.
Steens Hotell
HISTORIC HOTEL
This lovely 19th-century building is brimming with period detail, from the gentle curve of
the stairway to the grand dining room with its stunning stained-glass windows. Rooms are
more straightforward but well-sized, and higher ones come with pretty tree-top outlooks.
Staff are welcoming and, bonus, it has Bergen's cheapest parking (Nkr50).
