At first glance this cheap place next door to the train station doesn't look promising, but its
large and spotless rooms, good sound insulation, comfy chairs and desk, helpful staff and
fast wi-fi that reaches all the rooms add up to as good a value as Norway gets.

A kilometre or so east of the town centre along the Rv7, this hostel has tidy cabins and
dorms but little atmosphere. Its roadside location isn't ideal.
Dr Holms Hotel HOTEL
( 32 09 57 00; www.drholms.no ; s/d from Nkr995/1490; )
This huge, white, wood-panelled hotel, which lords it over the train station, styles itself as
a mountain lodge and has been a reliable source of a good night's sleep for over a hundred
years. Rooms are divided into those in the old section, which have the most character, and
those in the new annexe.
Prices during the winter ski season are much higher than those quoted here.

This is the town's stand-out restaurant and it offers high-quality, traditional Norwegian
food that's been simmered, boiled and fired with love by celebrity-chef Frode Aga.
