OPPDAL ACTIVITIES
WHITE-WATER RAFTING
The nearby, wild and white Driva promises excellent rafting runs from May to October.
The outdoor-adventure company Opplev Oppdal ( 72 40 41 80; www.opplevoppdal.no ; Olav
Skasliens vei 10; rafting early Jun-mid-Aug) organises trips, from relatively tame Class I-II
trips to full-day Class III-IV trips that provide substantial thrills. Prices range from Nkr750
to Nkr850 per person per day; the company also organises family trips (Nkr1850 for sev-
en people).
MUSK OX & ELK SAFARIS
To track down the prehistoric musk ox, take one of the four- to six-hour musk ox safaris (
72 40 08 00; adult/child Nkr325/225; 9am mid-Jun-mid-Aug, by appointment rest of year) or-
ganised by Oppdal Booking . Tours leave from outside the tourist office at 9am and you
need your own transport (although with advance notice it can organise transport for you).
For those who want a more personalised and up-close encounter, private day or overnight
musk ox safaris are also available year round.
Oppdal Booking also organises three-hour elk safaris ( 72 40 08 00; per person Nkr350).
Tours depart at twilight (between 7.30pm and 11pm). The meeting point is outside the
tourist office.
Advance bookings are required for both safaris.
SKIING & SNOWBOARDING
The three-part Oppdal Skisenter climbs the slopes from Hovden, Stølen and Vangslia, all
within easy reach of town. The smaller Ådalen ski area nearby has two lifts. Vangslia is
generally the easiest, with a couple of beginners' runs; Stølen offers intermediate skiing
and Hovden has three challenging advanced runs. The season runs from late November
to late April. Ski passes for adults/children start at Nkr370/300 for one day.

Oppdal Booking also arranges the following activities:
Cable-Car Ride (adult/child Nkr100/70; 11am-5pm Jul-Aug, 11am-5pm Sat & Sun rest of year)
Gondola rides up Skjørstadhovden (1125m) to Hovden Skisenter for fine views.
Guided Mountain Hikes (adult/child Nkr265/135; 10am Jun-Sep) Four- to six-hour treks;
advance booking and your own transport is required.
