We don't normally go out of our way to recommend fast-food kiosks, but Snadderkiosken
is one of the best of its kind, plus it also feels apt for a seaside town. Just behind the beach,
this lovely, tiled, 1920s-style kiosk serves up hearty meatballs and mashed potatoes or
grilled chicken with rice and salad to beachgoers and late-night wanderers.

Taking the Norwegian Riviera notion to its natural conclusion, you can spend a few sunny
hours here and fancy yourself by the Med - super yachts all around and an Aperol spritz

, Nkr96) in hand. Pizzas, made under the direction of a Neopolitan
pizzaiolo,
are the best on the coast; modern Italian mains are similarly spot-on.
The look is contemporary rustic Italian tempered by Nordic restraint - quite lovely.

We advise booking well ahead to secure a table at this unassuming, elegant Kristiansand
shopfront. It's been hailed Norway's 'fifth best restaurant' and offers top-notch neo-Nordic
dining with extreme attention to detail and the best local produce.
Dishes closely follow the seasons, but expect descriptions that read something like 'Nor-
wegian oysters with kohlrabi and dill and sea herbs/fried cabbage with juice of vegetables
and butter/common nettle'. Wines, many from Burgundy, and beers from Grimstad's
Nøgne Ø are skillfully matched course by course. Tip: if you've not planned ahead, it's al-
ways worth popping in to see if there's space at the bar.
