Sleeping
Kristiansand can be expensive for what you get, which may be nothing unless you book
early for summer, especially once the July school-holiday period begins. If you are driv-
ing, there are a number of chain hotels around the entrance to Kristiansand Dyrepark,
10km east of town.

This low-key 15-room hotel in a historic building is run by a lovely young couple. The
rooms are, admittedly, small, but have big windows and are well-designed, and include ex-
tras unusual at this price, such as Nespresso machines. Breakfast, afternoon tea-time
waffles and evening pizza and wine are served in an atmospheric basement or relax in the
sun in its cute courtyard.

This brand-new beachside place is big and brash, but very beautifully designed. It has a
warm, textured and relaxed kind of style, and has all the facilities and extras you can ex-
pect in a hotel of this size. It's a wonderful spot for families with its beach, park and pool-
side position.
