massive cruise ships, on the opposite side of Pipervika from Aker Brygge, Solsiden serves
up some of the city's best seafood and has an ideal view over the fjord.
Bølgen & Moi SEAFOOD
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 22 44 10 20; www.bolgenogmoi.no ; Tjuvholmen Allé 5; mains Nkr189-356,
menu from Nkr565; noon-10pm Mon-Sat, 3-9pm Sun)
Part of a small chain, Bølgen & Moi is cool, jazzy and serves decent seafood from a prime
position overlooking the docks. It's as popular a place to just kick back on a summer even-
ing with a drink as it is a place to eat.
Around Oslo S & Grønland
The area east and north of the main train station has traditionally been the place for cheap
Asian and African dishes, and offers a very different dining experience to central and
western Oslo. Sadly though, in the past couple of years a number of classic Ethiopian res-
taurants have closed down.
Punjab Tandoori INDIAN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 22 17 20 86; www.punjabtandoori.no ; Grønlandsleiret 24; lunch special
Nkr69, mains Nkr80-110; 11am-11pm Mon-Sat, noon-10pm Sun)
Full of the richness and flavours of the north of the subcontinent, this simple canteen-style
affair serves spot-on curries that would stand out in India let alone Oslo. It's a real neigh-
bourhood institution for the local Asian community and Norwegians in the know, and is as
authentic an Indian restaurant as you'll get in Europe.
Teddy's Soft Bar AMERICAN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 22 17 36 00; Brugata 3a; light meals from Nkr83; 11am-3am Mon-Sat)
The jukebox in the corner gives Teddy's Soft Bar a flavour of 1950s USA. It's something
of a local institution that has scarcely changed in decades. Its burgers go well with that
other 1950s America favourite - milkshakes. It's as much a place for a beer as a meal.
