In-Depth Information
On a small side street lined with cafes and restaurants, Rust is bright, colourful and 100%
modern Oslo. It has plenty of outdoor seating and loads of blankets for when it gets cold.
Good for a quiet cocktail, hearty salads or some creative tapas late into the night.
Gate of India INDIAN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 22 69 09 33; www.gateofindia.no ; Bogstadveien 66a; lunch specials
Nkr149, mains Nkr150-200; 3-10pm Mon, 3-11pm Tue-Sat, 2-10pm Sun)
Upstairs across from the Majorstuen T-bane station, Gate of India is a little pricey, but for
scrumptious sub- continental flavours in a fairly refined atmosphere, it's hard to beat. The
service is slow.
Café Sara INTERNATIONAL
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 22 03 40 00; www.cafesara.no ; Hausmanns gate 29; mains Nkr120-180;
11am-3.30am Mon-Sat, 1pm-3.30am Sun)
Despite the light and airy name, this is a dark but warm English-style pub serving a hearty
mix of Norwegian dishes as well as pizzas, Turkish and Tex-Mex. The house special is a
meat stew with corn, rice and potatoes - perfect for a cold winter's night.
Café Skansen MEDITERRANEAN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 24 20 13 11; www.cafeskansen.no ; Rådhusgata 32; mains Nkr110-230;
11am-midnight Mon-Fri, noon-midnight Sat, noon-11pm Sun)
One of the wave of sophisticated cafes and restaurants currently taking Oslo by storm. As
in many such places, this one looks south to the Mediterranean for style and taste - and on
sunny summer days its outdoor terrace does indeed feel very far from the popular images
of a frozen Norway.
Hos Thea NORWEGIAN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 22 44 68 74; www.hosthea.no ; Gabelsgata 11; mains Nkr295-330, menus
from Nkr495; 5-10pm Mon-Thu & Sun, to 10.30pm Fri & Sat)
Krone for Krone, this place, with its creative dishes such as locally caught lobster ravioli
with an apple and curry sauce or duck in rosehip sauce, is arguably the best place to eat in
Oslo.
