Founded in 1891 as a sanatorium by Dr Ingebrigt Christian Lund, this castle-like hotel of-
fers luxury, history, great views and, all things considered, a very reasonable price. If that
weren't enough, you also get a vast breakfast buffet, complete with organic produce.
Eating
In the past, going to a restaurant in Oslo meant parting with great wads of cash for very
little that could be called good food. Luckily, this has changed, and though costs are still
high, today there are plenty of places to choose from. If you're after a healthy meal that
won't break the bank, the secret is to think Asian and African. Oslo is full of decent Indian,
Thai, Vietnamese and Ethiopian restaurants where a proper meal normally costs about half
that of a standard Norwegian restaurant.
For the ultimate snack try a polse (hot dog) in a lumpe (potato cake) for around Nkr20
or a waffle with sour cream and strawberry jam.
