This century-old hotel, which has spacious, colourful (if rather IKEA) furnishings, started
life as a boarding house for rural folk coming down to the big city and was owned by an
organisation promoting Norwegian culture. Today those 'poor' rural folk have to pay like
the rest of us, but the owners, and their work, continues.
P-Hotel HOTEL

In addition to offering some of the best prices in central Oslo, the P-Hotel has comfortable
rooms with decent bathrooms, wooden furnishings and, for Oslo, space in relative abund-
ance. Breakfast is put in a bag and delivered to your door. There are tea- and coffee-mak-
ing facilities in the rooms. This hotel couldn't be much more central.

Opened as a guesthouse for bachelors in the 1920s, Cochs has sparsely furnished, clean
rooms, some of which have kitchenettes. It's ideally located behind the Royal Palace. The
rooms at the back overlooking the Slottsparken are especially spacious. There is a luggage
room. The hotel offers a discounted breakfast buffet at a coffee shop around the corner
from Nkr42.
The Thief BOUTIQUE HOTEL
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 24 00 40 00; www.thethief.com ; Landgangen 1; d from Nkr2890; )
Part of the new waterfront development, The Thief is a world-class hotel (albeit one with a
strange name) overlooking the Astrup Fearnley Museet. The hotel's decoration is inspired
by the next-door art: there are moving human images in the elevators, gold knitting clocks
that don't tell the time, and swish rooms with piles of cushions.
Food and service are both all you would expect of such a place.
