while not compulsory, they do offer an entertaining anecdotal history of the place that you
won't get by wandering around on your own.
Norwegian Resistance Museum MUSEUM
(Norges Hjemmefront Museet; MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 23 09 31 38; www.forsvaretsmuseer.no ;
adult/child Nkr50/25, with Oslo Pass free; 10am-5pm Mon-Sat, 11am-5pm Sun Jun-Aug,
10am-4pm Mon-Fri, 11am-4pm Sat & Sun rest of year)
Within the Akershus fortress complex the Norwegian Resistance Museum stands adjacent
to a memorial for resistance fighters executed on the spot during WWII. The small but
worthwhile museum covers the dark years of German occupation, as well as the jubilant
day of 9 May 1945 when peace was declared. Artefacts include underground newspapers,
numerous maps and photographs, and, most intriguingly, a set of dentures that belonged to
a Norwegian prisoner of war in Poland that were wired to receive radio broadcasts.
OSLO PASS
Oslo Pass ( www.visitoslo.com/en/activities-and-attractions/oslo-pass ; adult 1/2/3 days Nkr290/
425/535, child & senior Nkr145/215/270), sold at the tourist office, is one popular way of cut-
ting transport and ticket costs around the city. The majority of the city's museums are
free with the pass, as is public transport within the city limits (barring late-night buses).
Other perks include restaurant and tour discounts.
