The National Museum of Contemporary Art features the National Gallery's collections of
post-WWII Scandinavian and international art. Some works in the 3000-piece collection
are definitely an acquired taste, but it does provide a timely reminder that Norwegian art
didn't cease with Edvard Munch. There are frequent cutting-edge temporary exhibitions.
The in-house cafe is also worthy of praise.
Stenersen Museum

This museum of Modernism, Realism and avant-garde art contains three formerly private
collections of works, dating from 1850 to 1970, by Norwegian artists. The museum and
much of the art, which includes works by Ludvig Karsten and Amaldus Nielsen, were a
gift to the city by Rolf E Stenersen.

Housed in the last residence of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, the Ibsen Museum is
a must-see for Ibsen fans. The study remains exactly as he left it, and other rooms have
