equally active in crafting the 2007 UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous
Peoples. The Declaration embodies the most important rights the Suyá and their
ancestors have long fought for: the right to self-determination; the right to own and
control their lands, territories and resources; the right to be free from discrimination;
the right to live in freedom, peace, and security; the right to practice and revitalize
their cultural traditions and customs, among many others.
