above. Otherwise, the AB and DB markers did not work in a practical everyday
reality. Messages sent out via radiophone at least twice a day, 7 days a week, still
had to be dated using the Christian calendar, as well as other official reports. And
as much as we thought about AB and DB, we realized it turned out to be another
way of making Indigenous Peoples conform to ordering time from the past through
the present and into the future in a linear fashion. The circular and seasonal notions
of time that many Indigenous Peoples share in Central Brazil, which are created in
tandem with the rainy and dry seasons, life cycles, and other events, do not really
conform to an original date reflecting “before” and “after” starting points or events
(see Part III).
