The Dhustone section.
This geological section illustrates the di~culties of assigning a
geological age to igneous rocks. In this case, all that can be said of
their age is that they must be younger than Devonian, the last lay-
ered sedimentary rocks they intrude and cut across. They could of
course be as young as Tertiary, but not have penetrated any further
than the Devonian. The originator of this section is unknown, but
it is believed to be from mid-Victorian times and to represent the
famous Shropshire dhustone rock near Ludlow.
