19 Primrose Hill, Gateshead, where Arthur Holmes lived as a boy.
Victoria died, shy and retiring young Arthur Holmes joined this
exhilarating school environment, and blossomed. By the age of
fifteen he had won first class honours in the School Certificate
Examinations, and so could go on to study in the sixth form.

have exemplified the school motto taken from an ancient Greek
poem: 'Toil is no disgrace, But idleness is a thing of reproach'
