In-Depth Information
The one-way fare for a 100km trip is normal/express €18.70/22.
Discounts Children aged four to 11 pay half, those aged 12 to 16 pay 70%. Student dis-
counts require full-time study in Finland: buy a student coach discount card (€8) from any
bus station. Proper student ID and a passport photo is required, and the card entitles you to
a 50% discount on journeys more than 60km. If booking three or more adult tickets togeth-
er, a 25% discount applies, meaning good news for groups.
Car & Motorcycle
Finland's road network is excellent, although there are few motorways. When approaching
a town or city, keskusta indicates the town centre. There are no road tolls but lots of speed
cameras.
Petrol is expensive in Finland, on a par with the UK. Many petrol stations are unstaffed,
but machines take cash and cards. Change for cash is not given.
Hire
Costs Car rental is expensive, but rates can work out reasonably with advance booking or
with a group. A small car costs around €70/300 per day/week with 300km free per day. As
ever, the cheapest deals are online.
Look out for weekend rates. These can cost little more than the rate for a single day, and
you can pick up the car early afternoon on Friday and return it late Sunday or early Monday.
