Economy
Finland's economy, once dominated by forestry, is now as much or more about technology
and services. Like most European economies, Finland's has had a hard time of it in recent
years and at the time of writing was still struggling to emerge from recession. Apart from
the worldwide malaise, two principal factors have been Nokia's failure to crack the smart-
phone market and declining demand for paper due to increasingly digital reading habits.
Nevertheless, the long-term outlook is positive, with a well-balanced economy built on
strong foundations with a highly skilled workforce.
