A great coffee-and-petrol stop between eastern and western Lapland, 105km from Inari
on the road to Kittilä, this curious cafe sits in the hamlet of Pokka, proud to be Finland's
coldest place, having registered a chilly -51.5ºC a few years back. The interior features
stuffed birds, tropical plants, great doughnuts and a charismatic owner who isn't happy
until the needle hits -30ºC. It's got cabins and camping, and can organise winter excur-
sions.
Inari to Norway
016
Norway stretches right across the top of Finland, and there are three main routes north
from Inari: to the west via Karigasniemi (the most common Nordkapp route); north to Uts-
joki; and east to Sevettijärvi. From Utsjoki, you can turn east along the fabulous Tenojoki
to Nuorgam, the EU's northernmost village. The Kevo Strict Nature Reserve stretches
between the western route and the northern one.
Kaamanen
Kaamanen, 25km north of Inari, is the crossing point of the three northern roads. There's
petrol, food and drink at the Kaamasen Kievari roadhouse, where buses stop.
